There’s been quite a few acquisitions and major partnership announcements in the press the past few days by established media and pure play digital companies from Disney, to News Corporation, to EA, to Glu. This just makes me feel all the more certain that the content producers are looking to stem the frontal assault on their revenue streams by building out their own partner networks.
What makes the Disney acquisition of Rocketpack interesting is that while Rocketpack does develop games organically, their core product is a platform for other gaming developers. So, just as Apple, Google, Facebook, and others have encouraged independent product development to be deployed on their platform, it seems that Disney, EA, and others are catching on and jumping into the fray to better control the distribution and revenue of their content.
